Can someone please post a couple of pictures illustrating the difference in the early E versus later E front nose differences? I know what the late E series front nose looks like with the round circular holes on each side, but wanted to have a definitive answer on the proper early E series? I believe it is the same as an M series but if someone could post some pictures of the differences that would be great. Also, does anyone know around what SN the change took place?

I don't have a Dino Compendium, but I would expect that source would have photos and a good guess as to the S/N changeover. Although it if was like most Italian cars this change occurred progressively so there will be a range rather than a number where this change occurred.

From an email I received from Matthias Bartz on October 20, 2013 about the E-Series valance changeover, his quote is:

"The change was introduced from body no. 1112 for all models."

I have a Dino Compendium and the pictures shown for the E series front valence are of the long narrow rectangular opening with two round holes on either side. Is it safe to say then that the Early E series should have the front M series valence?

Thanks, that is exactly what I was looking for. I have seen so many variations so just wanted to make sure what I am looking at when I go shopping for a Dino in a couple of weeks. I have seen this "4 rectangle" nose before with the two smaller, outer rectangle openings actually higher than these photos. In other words, the top of the outer rectangle openings were higher than the top of the two inner rectangular openings. Was this done by the factory on any Dino's or is it just "butchered up" bodywork?

The two outer openings are the intakes for the cabin air fans. They should be below the much larger central radiator air intakes. This nose design was common to the 246 L, M and early E series cars. You may have seen a 206 and been confused as the outer air intakes on that model sit higher than the two central intakes.

Be aware that there are LOTS of Dino's out there of all series that have late E series noses on them with the round openings on either side. The nose on a Dino is very easy to crunch and rusts just as easily. As such many noses have been replaced and AFAIK Ferrari only ever offered one front clip (the late one with the round holes) late in E series production and later when the car was out of production. I have personally seen more than 10 Dinos ranging from L series to early E that had the wrong nose put on them. In most instances the owner had no clue making me the bad guy for telling them about the discrepancy.
