Just scattershooting as gas prices rise.... What kind of mileage did the early non-turbo Lotus 4 manage to make on the highway? Anyone know? EDIT: finally found something on google. Comments on the below?
Keep in mind the price of keeping it running or putting it into good tune to turn out similiar mileage into your purchase price, or rather, your calculated gas savings. It would be a neat car for sure, but you might pay a lot more in the long run than expected!! Sunny
Just get an MR2 Turbo and stay out of the boost. Ferrari 348 performance there when you need it and I still get 22/32mpg (city/hwy) with 154,xxx on the clock.
Or just get an MR2 nonturbo, and save the difference in $ for gas, keeping his Ferrari as a toy. I personally have an 82 633CSi. It cost me $2200 to buy, probably $2000 in 'maintaince' over the 2 years (most being optional, as in no I didnt have to get new wheels, no I didnt have to get new tires, but hey ) and gets around 30mpg. Far more personality then your run of the mill toyota econobox.
Bullfighter beat me, but yes I have a 1990SE. The first intercooled cars came out in 89.5. Searched for around three years for a Monaco white chargecooled 4cyl. And yes, I friggin love it too!
MR2s may have performance with decent gas mileage and a post 88.5 Esprit may be more reliable, but an early Esprit 76-79 or an Eclat have style and design to die for! The later styled Stevens cars don't hold a candle to the early cars in regards to aesthetics. If style and gas mileage are what you want, do go for a early Esprit. Be ready to do some maitenance work though!
