In the early years of the F40 I've spotted a few examples that I haven't been able to identify. The very first F40 I've seen was at the New Race Festival at the circuit of Zolder, Belgium in 1988. See first pictures. It had dealer plates. My guess is s/n 79377. I've seen this chassis later in 1988 at the circuit of Zandvoort, The Netherlands. It carried Belgian registration 860.V.9 Which I think belongs to someone from Garage Francorchamps (Swaters himself?)

The second unidentified F40 was present at the New Race Festival at Zolder, Belgium in 1990. It was raced by Jean Blaton and had a yellow pinstripe just below the black waist line.

What I noticed about these two early F40s are some details:

    - both had sliding windows. Did only the early F40s have these, or were they still an option when the normal side windows came available?
    - both have the reflectors in between the rear lights. Later models have them in the lower rear bumper. In 1989 I saw s/n 79377 with registration 860.V.9 at Zolder but with the reflectors in the bumper. I think the rumour was that the car had an accident so they had to replace the whole rear bodywork. Could anyone confirm?
    - the Blaton F40 has three round exhaust pipes. I've only seen this on a few early F40s. Anyone know why this was different from the regular lay-out?

Thank you in advance for any information.

    Best regards, Peter
