Today it's used to allow air to flow out of the wheel-well to reduce the high pressure generated (lift inside the well) by the spinning wheel and tire. You'll see this used on some aftermarket/special wish Porsche 930 in the 80s. You'll also see it used on the front wheel-wells on the F40, and Enzo. At that time though (1962) you could be correct that they had done it help air flow over the rear brakes not knowing what other benefits it had. I believe all 62 GTOs had them. I've never seen a pic of one without them! The 1984 Road and Track issue profiling the 288GTO had a 62 on track with it for visual comparison. That car had them as well.
I remember the car when it was with Bob Grossman. I believe you're right about the spoiler but it was a long time ago. Bob was offering it for about 15K, less than a new Ghibli.
3387/GT. 3223/GT never did Le Mans and received a wider rear spoiler when one was added. Best wishes, Kare
thank you guys. the historical photos are great and so hard to come by i appreciate all of them very much. the car is of course pictured in many books but only at its "maiden "show car release. after which there are very few photos to be had from its racing days and various owners. so anything that can be contributed is again greatly appreciated.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I just bought a couple of 250 GTOs myself. Please send me all your photos. LOL!
Ha - well, there you have it - the joke is on me! To me, It just looked too fake a post to be real! ;^)
Nothing surprises me anymore after finding out some of the users we have here. Pretty funny actually for a bunch of bench racers and amateurs to critique Shuey's driving style only for him to view the thread personally.
great to have you on the board, nunzio. what a car. have you considered repainting, adding the old racing stripe - this was, after all, the car that started it all. It would be nice to give a nod to the significance of that press conference birth - the way the world first saw the car that would become one of the most significant automotive models ever Best, Zach
actually yes decision will be made to possibly do just that during 2006 as it would be a true restoration and concurrently make it one of a kind
Jim, not sure, i can't really remember Nunzio, again, welcome. Are there any pictures or "factiods" that you have found of your car that we may find interesting? All the best, Chris
well as you can attest / imagine, being a new owner of any ferrari no matter what the model we endeavor to collect every scrap of data about our acquisition. that is precisly where i am today. so to specifically answer your question at this moment i only have the boiler plate data that is readily available to all. hopefully this website and other areas of research will provide some additional tidbits. thank you
