    Jim,

I am not trying to start a war here. I said all 32 MY '94 348 tb's imported to NA were "factory challenge" cars. They were equiped with some of the challenge parts from the factory and you are right the cars came with factory welded roll cage mount and the carpet was trimmed around it. All 45 (32tb and 13ts) were sold with a street title. They all came with the challenge kit as a delete option if you did not want to race it.

I never said they came from the factory with challenge specifications. Also the #plate for the "serie challenge" cars was different than the vin plate. The plate was added by FNA and not at the factory. Not all cars have a #'d plate.

This particular car came from the factory in '94 as a "factory challenge" tb and it was raced in '95 and '96 series. Those are facts. There are roll bar mounts under the carpet. It appears obvioulsy to have been modified to it's current form.

I would think a Ferreri Master Technician would be more knowledgable.

    Richard

Really, not trying to start a war?

comments like you make are contrary to that and by the way It`s spelled "FERRARI" (check the spelling on the back of your car)

Now, where exactly do you get your facts, some web site? or from FNA? did you work for FNA at the time they were built?

and yes I do know the plates were installed by FNA, do you know how I know? well I know because I installed them to the cars and all of them had plates. If it did not have one, it was removed.

Bottom line is that the car on the site is a mix match of parts, it may be a factory challenge car, it may have placed well in the challenge series all of which can be verified those who ran the series, but as it sits it is missing a lot has a lot of parts from other cars, and is not nearly correct.

    Best regards, Jim

I have a '94 Challenge and it did not come with the "Serie Challenge" ID plate (see pic for example) anywhere on the the passenger side door jamb or anywhere else for that matter. There's no indication on my car that such a plate was ever mounted or removed (i.e. no faded outline of where the plate would have been, no glue residue, no holes for rivets etc). My understanding is that most of the surviving 348 Challenge cars do not have the ID plate - though I have seen pics of cars that have such plates. That said, my understanding is based off info that I've sourced off the Web and is not info direct from FNA.

Not sure why yours does not have a plate, all 32 had a plate made.

It is possible that maybe if it was one of the first cars sent, the plates may have not been ready and then in that case the plate was forwarded to the dealer to install.

In any case, the car should have the plate. It is somewhere if not on the car. You can contact FNA or your dealer about it and I am sure they can help you.

But your being the challenge car, it should have the carpets with cutouts for the rollbar mounting and cover plates in the rear where the bar mounts and should have all the mountings welded in. The MY 1994 factory challenge car were built as "ready to be converted cars" with all needed to just install the challenge race package which was at extra cost (rollbar,seats,ect...). The earlier challenge cars had no identification plates and all welding and modifications were done at the dealer level and those cars started out as regular street 348`s

My only contention is that the one for sale no longer has all the necessary items making it a factory challenge car (i.e. correct interior and seats, grillework, ect...).

Unfortunately FNA has no info on the 348 challenge car factory or otherwise. I tried calling when I bought my car and even the local dealer tried to get info. FNA only recognizes it as a '94 348 tb black/tan nothing else. FNA did not keep records on the challenge race series either.

My understanding from various sources is FNA made the badges, but the selling dealer installed them. Not all the #'d badges were installed. Infact the badges do not follow chronologically with the vin #'s. They seem to be put on rather randomly unlike the SS badge.

Truth is the badges on the Challenge cars were an afterthought. and modeled after the Speciale (same plate, different wording). The speciale was a little more thought out but the plates and the dash emblems were made in the USA by FNA as you stated. We installed most of the plates at FNA but a few were done on the dealer end due to timing.

as a side note, the plates for the 512M were also done by FNA.

    Regards, Jim
