I recognize a few of you here as bidding on some ebay cars. (yes I put 2+2 together)

Many of you must also be wondering who is this "Cruisin9"? He has bid on most, if not every 355 on ebay, and has never bought one. Thats fine, same with me actually...however the guys feedback consists of hundreds and hundreds of feedbacks from only 2 or 3 trinket sellers.

Just kind of weird, thinking we are bidding against someone who may not be a serious bidder.

The one-time-only bids are within hours of posting, even on salvage cars and obvious scams. Just wondering, thats all.

anybody else curious about the same thing?

Funny you mention this. I have also seen him bid on many f cars over the last year. Just recently he started a post about a spyder he bought and the next day the engine lights came on.

Then after that post, assuming he owns the car, I happened to notice that he was bidding on another 355 on ebay.

    Kind of weird huh.

    This post read my mind.

Yes, your really missing something and it might be intelligence.

What we are saying is that this person is constantly bidding on items, we are not saying that we are bidding on these items, just looking as we have in interest in the Ferrari market as it relates to values of our cars.

He might also just be tracking prices/VINS. By bidding low on the auction, it automatically places it in his "My Ebay" site

    Ebay is competition.

When I am bidding on an ebay Ferrari, and I have bought several cars including Ferraris on ebay, I am not just negotiating with the seller, but I am competing with other bidders to bid as low as possible, but still higher than the other bidders.

If I bid $66,000 on a car, and I am outbidding all but one person, I want to be sure that I am outbid by a real person who wants the car more than me.

So when someone else is the high bidder at $66,100, what am I supposed to think when this is his feedback?:

    http://feedback.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback&userid=cruisin9&iid=4650323980

Cruisin9 has bought one item, for $6.50, in the last two years. Previously to that, he bought a lot of 14k gold trinkets from this guy, check the red dots. (btw, who gets an appraisal on 14k gold they bought from ebay?)

    http://feedback.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback&userid=superjeweler.com&items=25&page=635&frompage=-1&iid=-1&de=off

So when I am being outbid on $66,000 and $80,000 Ferraris, I want to know who I am competing against.

Now, you may think "Hey, but neither of you met reserve anyway". I think many of you realize that perhaps half of all the Ferraris from ebay are sold after the auction is over. My being the high bidder puts me in a good position to buy the car.

    Meeyatch,

I apologize. In regards to the statement that 50% never hit the reserve, I think it is more like 90%.

I have bought and sold about 4-5 cars on ebay for my personal use and this is what I find. As stated, hardly any cars are actually sold on ebay thru the auction process. Look in the completed section and you will find that there are certainly very few that hit the reserve or were endend with a buy it now option.

However, I think ebay is like a large NY times classified section and creates interest on behalf of the seller. I beleive that most deals are done over the phone and negotiated that way. Therefore, if items are bid up for without the intent to purchase (why someone would do that, I don't know), then as mentioned, it makes it harder to negotiate with the seller when he thinks there is interest in his/her car.

    Just my point of view.

No worries...thanks for the further details. :)

What has been harder for you...buying or selling??

Selling is certainly the harder process as people always want to pay much less than you think it is worth and you have to go thru a lot of people to get your buyer. Like I said, ebay is like a classified newspaper ad where I put my phone # in the auction or my email and negotiate from there.

In regards to buying, I have been luck that being in the metro NY area, (Where there are a lot of cars) I have been able to buy cars that are relatively close to me and have been able to inspect them in person as opposed to buying a car in Idaho.
