I don't have experience with "importing" eBay goods so take my opinion for what it's worth. I think the best assurance you can have is to contact the seller and check his/her feedback. Also, you could drop eBay a line and ask for their advice. The eBay live chat works pretty well. Good luck! Dane

Anyone could scam you, it doesn't matter where yuo or they are. Take it on a case by case basis. Ask questions, check facts and if it sounds good give it a shot. There's no way to be 100% sure.

I've bought a fair amount from overseas. If you post the link I'll give you my opinion on if it's a scam. The only other issue will be poss. hold up in customs.

I buy stuff from Germany and the UK regularly. So far I have had only one bad experience and that was my fault. I had a lapse of concentration and did not check the voltage before plugging in a new reciever.

If yo post the item you are thinking about purchasing I can offer some advice.

Where did you say the guy was from? There is no noonan1970 from the UK on ebay?

The fact that he emailed you seems to be sketchy. Too many red flags all over this. I would stay away!

Do not send him the money until you have the laptop in hand.

I find these people disappear quickly if you mention that you will be traveling to Europe next week, and are willing to meet up in person to check out the goods and do the deal.

I've bought several times from sellers in Europe and Hong Kong and sold one item to a guy in Germany. No problems, but all purchases were under $100.00, sale was around $125.00. I'd be personally very wary of doing more than that out of the US.

    Hey Scott,
do you think scams and ripoffs and misrepresentation are likely only from outside the US? As someone who lives outside the US, I buy regularly from all over the world. Interestingly the problem purchases were from the US, not the other parts of the world. :) Poor shipping packaging, misrepresented qulaity, wrong item, etc.

I would follow the advice of others in this thread. Check the 'references' (feedback) from other buyers and sellers with that person. If the feedback count is low, then look even closer.

    Gerrit
