I have not used this account in months. I went to the login and it asks for SS#, address, all that crap. The next step could be credit card info. Is there someone to call? I think this is a fraudulent message, but when I logged into EBAY, it said my account has been suspended. WTF? Has anyone received anything like this.

It used to be that you didn't really need anything to sign up for eBay, but now I think you do need a credit card #, don't you? Not sure about ss # though.

No way you need to give SSN... try to get IP details or report it to Ebay.

    IT'S A FRAUD!

I just looked at the address to where it was emailed, and it was an inactive email account I have for being on a branch of my school's SGA, and it was forwarded to my main account. I have no account set up, linked to the SGA! I'm going to contact EBAY. This pisses me off, because who knows how many have fallen for this crap.

Does EBAY take any accountability for any of this garbage?

This happens all too often. You'd be surprised at the number of emails and hacks out there. Someone just scrapes all the images from one site, creates a submittal form, similar to what Ebay or whatever bank site is most common, and people sign up for it. It is theft by stupidity and will clean you out.

There's quite a bit of fraud out there and it is all too easy to get away with these days. Here, I'll outline a few items that are currently on my well hated list along with the ebay/bank type of forms:

    - domain registration of america. this is a neat little company, they send out letters to you once you sign up for a domain and ask that you grant them permission to lock into your domain, to claim it that is. they are ***** to work with, but it all looks legit, even the fine print is "iffy". but yet, they charge you, over charge you that is - up to 30 bucks a domain and to transfer it away from them, it is absolute hell. I've had issues where I buy domains for people but only put myself as the technical contact, allowing them to be the contact for everything else - no more no way jose. they fire off those response letters - real letters through the mail and it takes me a while to get the domain back.

    - spyware/adware/malware EULAs - as one individual which I o'so love on this site said, "people don't install the software from my site that they do not agree to." kinda difficult when those EULAs are agreed to from holes in internet explorer. fraud? yea, I didn't agree to jack, but because there are holes in software that are taken advantage of, I am allowing you to use my computer, learn what I type, where I go, all so you can profit for your personal gains. sorry, I've had enough, and everyone else has too.

    /end rant.

no. nor is there anything they can do. you are the one that is receiving the email, and you are the one that is clicking on the false site. what accountability could they have? each site, such as ebay and paypal, they TELL YOU straight up, they will not send you such garbage.

if you question it, post it up here, or send me a pm/email.

    Ebay's response:

    Hello,

Thank you for writing to eBay regarding the email you received.

Emails such as this, commonly referred to as "spoof" or "phished"
messages, are sent in an attempt to collect sensitive personal or
    financial information from the recipients.

The email you reported was not sent by eBay. We have reported this email
    to the appropriate authorities.

In the future, be very cautious of any email that asks you to submit
information such as your credit card number or your email password. eBay
will never ask you for sensitive personal information such as passwords,
bank account or credit card numbers, Personal Identification Numbers
(PINs), or Social Security Numbers in an email. If you ever need to
provide sensitive information to us, please open a new Web browser, type
www.ebay.com into your browser address field, and click on the "site
map" link located at the top the page to access the eBay page you need.

If you have any doubt about whether an email message is from eBay,
please forward it immediately to [email protected]. Do not respond to it or
click any of the links. Do not remove the original subject line or
change the email in any way when you forward it to us.

If you have already entered sensitive financial information or your
password into a Web site based on a request from a spoofed email, you
should take immediate action to protect your identity and all of your
online accounts. We have developed an eBay Help page with valuable
information regarding the steps you should take to protect yourself.

    http://pages.ebay.com/help/confidence/isgw-account-theft-reporting.html

To review eBay's new tutorial about Spoof Emails, please see the
    following Web page:

    http://pages.ebay.com/education/spooftutorial/

Once again, thank you for alerting us to the spoof email you received.
Your efforts help us ensure that eBay remains a safe and vibrant online
    marketplace.

The first and probably easiest tip-off should have been that it was not adressed to your e-bay user name. I'd be willing to bet the bank it wasn't. If, and I stress the word IF, e-bay ever sends you an e-mail they will always adress you by your user name. In other words it will say Dear XYZ123, not Dear E-bay user or E-bay member.

The other tip is that E-bay already has the information that this e-mail was asking for (except maybe the SS#?). Why would they need to ask for it again?

Last, if you logged in using the link in the e-mail refer to the pragraph in e-bay's response on what to do!!

well im glad you caught it before you gave them your information.

I personally Will NEVER give out my SS number to anyone.. unless i am 100 percent sure. SS number is tied to EVERYTHING once someone has it.. (esp. when connected to a bank account number) that can drain you DRY.
also. u can get a drivers license with a SS number...which in turn.. you can get a birth certificate.. bad bad bad bad.. news. never ever give that number out.. and if its currently printed on you DL.. get it off !

Everything emailed to Ebay is automated and your return email is pre written. What a great concept! Just sit back and let the computers take over. Ebay does not care because they increase services just to make it all automated.I would be surprised if they have more than 50 people working at Ebay full time.
