Hi I’m new to the page. I’ve been looking for an engine to do a Ferrari motor swap into a classic American muscle car (don’t kill me lol). I’ve found a f131b Modena motor on eBay. I asked the seller to provide me with serial number of engine. He has sent me serial number 158597. I was under the impression engine serial number is 5 digits not 6. Also how do I legit check this serial number to make sure im not getting taken to the cleaners and motor isn’t hot etc Image Unavailable, Please Login
My engine number is 5 digits, however I have a very production car. My question is, with all the choices of high powered crate motors out there for less, why on earth would anyone want to put a used 20 year Ferrari motor with only 400HP in a restomod?
We plan on doing a twin turbo Ferrari build. this one will definitely be more than 400hp but it’s all about wow factor. Image Unavailable, Please Login
An engine Ferrari fitted to a prototype 575M during factory refurbishing in 2005 had number 113319. 158597 would seem kind of high for a 360 engine, production of which stopped in 2005.
Ask the Seller for a photograph of the engine family and engine serial number marking. Should be something like this: Image Unavailable, Please Login
Looks more like "58597" to me (there is no "1" -- that's just a segment of a point of the leading star character, and the Seller not knowing that is maybe a red flag IMO); however, that level of grunge/oxidation doesn't seem to match the overall condition implied in the picture of post #1.
