I was hoping to get some opinions on the new mitsubishi eclipse.
I think it's going to be the same as the last Gen Eclipse, only with increased performance. It's still going to be that car that you see every last teenage girl, or guy who has enough money and smarts to know that the car can be made to go a lot faster than it already is, driving around in. I'm not a huge fan of the styling anyways.
Indeed. Just my take, but the 99's were the last of the Eclipse when it came to great styling. The last gen, came out in 2000, and took styling cues from Pontiac with their louvers on the sides of the car. Finally, they have done away with it, neary 6 years later. My opinion of the car? I've only see one on the road and here goes: from the side it tries to be an RX8, from the front it tries to be a Tiburon and from the rear, just a bigger mold of the last gen's rear. I'm not impressed on the styling one bit, and also, Mitsubishi is going down hill faster than the GM and any other automaker for that matter. This is their last and only hope.
Ironic? The 4-door mitsu a ten times better sports car than the 2-door. Not only that but I would rather have an acura RSX-s, or used CL type-S, a GTI or a mustang GT all for around the same price or less. For a little bit more you could get into an Rx-8, or even a G35. As to the best eclipse, I also think the ones with the turbo and AWD were the best.
They certainly didn't make it any better. What used to be a light, cheap car that could be hot-rodded into a street monster is now into its second generation of being a bloated GT.
i think the only difference is going to be on the performance side, nothing really else changed besides the shape
It's a big change when you upgrade the engine and completely redesign the body. Those are a lot of differences, LOL. After all, the only things you can change in a car is its engine and body (also interior, which is redesigned as well in this new Eclipse)...seems to me they changed a lot.
I drove a 4-cylinder, 5-speed a few weeks ago and it felt like a big improvement over the previous model. Roomy and pretty solid. Back seat looked at least as big as a new Mustang's. Steering was pretty nicely-weighted and gave good feedback. Good grip and ride, not outstanding but comparable to others in its class. Shifter and clutch were a little clunky but the car only had a couple hundred miles on it. Pretty good power too, even without the 6. The styling seems derivative but fresh somehow, although a little fussy in spots: the plastic-encased rear spoiler for instance is a real head-scratcher, and the nose piece looks toyish. Interior materials were inoffensive but nothing to write home about. Definitely not an f-car, but decent competition for a V-6 Mustang, Tiburon, RSX, Scion tC, etc. Knowing this class has as much to do with style as performance, I guess sales success will depend on what people feel when they see it for the first time.
POS. The only half-way decent one was the generation before the last one that was a turbo AWD. Even that one had its issues (electrical gremlins, big time). The last one was an ugly, Wrong Wheel Drive car wrongly positioned as a sports car trying to live off its past glory. The new one will be more of the same, only a heavier WWD car.
HIGHS: It's a viable option to the onslaught of Honda lemmings. Entry level sports car of all the Mitsu lineup with new 'frilly' things installed. LOWS: Gutless wonder. The Mitsubishi EVO offers more performance carrying the wife and kids with a trunk full of groceries. OVERALL: This is they kind of car you buy your daughter for her high school graduation.
They didn't meet the challenge! It's not a bad car but. The look is good for some and not for others but the car drives pretty good. It has gotten decent reviews but the major issue, as already mentioned is the competition! The RSX S for about the same money is a lot better car to most. It is to me. Or if you need AWD, you're probably going to Suby, and so on.
I drove the same car with Frank and echo all of his comments completely. I was pleasantly suprised with the driving quality of the car (never driven an Eclipse before) but disappointed with the rest. My least favorite thing about the car (apart from the looks) was a TERRIBLE blind spot when changing lanes.
