    Hi All:

Well, I disconnected the battery after installing the new O2 sensor and fuse for the air pump (it was shot.....thanks). Car still runs like crap, though. When started, the 5-8 bank gets hot, but the 1-4 is ice cold. Any next suggestions? Thanks again for all the guidance.

Probably the next thing to check is the cat ECUs. When one trips it will shut down that bank. There are three of them, 1-4 bank, 5-8 bank, and the bypass cat. I would swap your 1-4 with 5-8 and see if the problem swaps sides. If so, you need a new cat ECU for the offending side.

Thanks again. Tonight's mission is to swap the cat ECUs first. If no work, try to swap the coil packs (suggestion from Foreign Cars Italia).

Swap fuel pump relays *after* doing the above-mentioned swaps.

Check sparks on the plugs on the cold side.

You might start with the coils, they are much easier to access.

Do your 1-4 spark plugs spark?

Try unplugging the cat ecu's all together and see what that does when you start the car?

Tried it, but it seems even worse. Both slow down lights came on, which is, I suspect, normal. For what it's worth, I can hardly breathe in my garage after only running the car for 30 seconds.....

Remove the wire to the #4 spark plug. Unscrew the plug. Reconnect the plug wire to the #4 spark plug. Lay the plug on top of the metal intake plenum (or grounded by any other large amount of metal).

Start the car. Examine if the #4 plug is sparking. Easy to see if so. Easy to see if not.

This will tell you if you have spark to that side.

Thanks. I'll try that first thing in the morning. Provided I have no spark, which is what I expect, what might I look to next?

Keep in mind to wear some thick gloves in case you do have spark.

Now, if there is no spark, then you'll next look at the coil signal and exhaust ecu.

On the other hand, if you do have spark, then you'll want to hot-wire the 1-4 fuel pump for a test of a failed pump (easy to do via the relay that you swapped earlier).

I have been readingred thread with great. Did you figure out the issue today? Sounds like a spark issue to me, but I am very new to 348/355.
