Hey, A friend's ecu is frozen and always displays the check engine light. Ferrari offered him a new one for $3000, but they also suggested he could buy a used one. Does anyone know where he could find a used ecu? Thank you.
Are you talking about the Motronic ECU? 348? 355? 2.5? 2.7? Does he know how to erase the stored codes? He has switched ECU's from left to right to confirm the ECU has a problem?
Sorry I was so vague. It's a 96 355. The ECU was switched with another car and confirmed to have the same problem. The signal could not be reset.
Bosch rebuilds their ECUs for as little as $300 in some cases. A '96 355 should have a Bosch Motronic 5.2 ECU. ...too bad it wasn't a '95 355 with Motronic 2.7. I could probably have fixed that for you overnight for about $12.
Can you confirm this for a 5.2 Motronic specifically for a Ferrari? I have not heard of Bosch offering factory rebuilt Motronic units, though there seems to be a burgoning aftermarket service. You need to be careful with your claims, as you can raise someone to unrealistic expectations.
You sound as though you paid too much for an ECU! http://www.boschautoparts.co.uk/pcPetr3.asp?c=2&d=1 http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?p=135298259#post135298259 http://www.bba-reman.com/content.aspx?content=electronic_fuel_injection_engine_management_units http://www.autocomputerexchange.com/?gclid=CNjI0-TWoJECFQVxHgodblxGuw http://www.ecudirect.com/index.asp http://www.ecmtogo.com/?gclid=CJ-ZgYPXoJECFQEaHgodi2ZvvA http://ecu-testing.com/ecu_testing.html
I am always hesitant to respond to questions like this until fixes have been completely tested. In this case I can say two out of three repairs have proven completely trouble free. David Thursby of Ricambi has accomplished what I consider the impossible on both of the two and I suspect equal results on the third that is yet to be tested. I wont bore anyone with the ugly details of these two projects but I will go out on a limb and say I would have given David a 1 in 500 chance of sucess at best. I am sure that each case is unique and has its own set of problems but I will also say the repairs were no where near $3000 that David provided. Do yourself a favor and make David your first call. I have 2 customers that are delighted with the service he provided. The third untested unit is for my own project and I am strongly considering buying a plane ticket and getting him in the shop for setup on that project. Dave
This still does not confirm that Bosch offers the Ferrari ECU part numbers. The problem often times is that Ferrari is such a niche player it is not worth it for oem's like Bosch to offer remanufactured parts for them.
Um, OK, like...dude...if you're gonna spend so much time carpin' on someone else offering links to the actual sites (multiple!) that do the ECU repairs...then go do your own research and share what you've found out proactively rather than just spreading negative vibes. B!tc#in' is cheap. Fixin' is better.
I am only pointing out that you send post information that is a dead end often times, because you have not fully checked yourself...
No, you have no idea if I've checked something out or not. You're just making random guesses, and doing so in the most negative light possible. That's called being part of the problem instead of being part of the solution. If you want something checked out better than you've seen done for you, then go do the work yourself. At that point you can add something positive, rather than trying to drag someone else down.
Uh, like, dude Nothing in any of those links specifically list an exchange or rebuild unit for any late model that I read. But, I don't spend my life posting catalogue links, unless of course they really are of real use. B.
OK, This sounds like "Bill and Ted's excellent adventure" not Fchat..... I think Helms gave the answer........Enough said.......
Hey, if that is the suggestion of master Ferrari tech Dave Helms, you best take his advice! Sounds like David may have a way to fix them, and since he has some experience specifically with the Ferrari application, that is a plus.
