Irvine is a self made man, they say he has real estate holding all over the world and is very wealth. I think he drove for Ferrari for something like 5 years. I'll rather hear his spin on the race then Laudas.
Niki Lauda owns an airline and is a very wealthy man. He drove for Ferrari for something like 4 years. Why is Irvine's opinion worth more than Lauda's?
Because Lauda is always looking for a soap box to stand on. I would not be surprised to him doing Shamwow commercials. I loved to watch him race and he was my favorite driver when I was young, but I wish he just left it to racing and his airline. I respect him for trying to make F1 better, but he has been on that soapbox too often that he his message has been tainted and has lost its effectiveness.
Not an opinion. There is not one professional racer who has offered his view that has said otherwise. You need to keep reading with even a partially open mind if you ever wish to have an opinion worth considering.
Off-topic: IIRC, Lauda was extremly critical of the Jaguar drivers a few years back when he held the "adviser" role or something close to that. He openly stated that today's F1 car are so easy to drive that even a monkey can drive the car. A few weeks after, Lauda got his chance in the car, lost control and spun the car into the gravel trap on the first lap. He then came out and apologized to the team and most of all, its drivers which one of them was Irvine. I think Irvine even made a wise-crack about a monkey being a better driver than Lauda after.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/70435 i agree with trulli...and i believe the in car footage proves it.
so here's a little problem....apparently mclaren say they asked race control a couple of times if the pass was ok...and they said yes. based on that information, they did nothing else. if that's true...then maybe the decision sucks....but otherwise, the penalty is ok in my books.
Racing died in F1 years ago ... if there was NO FerrariChat for you all to argue on, you would have stopped watching F1, like I have, ages ago. The only thing keeping you into the rigged TV show that once was sport is this site! Stop posting for a month and see if F1 still is interesting, especially when the FIA keep banning RACING! As you know I'm no LH fan, but atleast he was racing for a win instead of just circulating ... Pete
No not really, but do sometimes watch so I can have a Sunday afternoon nap . The cars are too even ... I don't watch anywhere near as much motor racing as I used to. Pete
But you insinuated in the other thread Trulli's *opinion* was authoratative? So it's only relevant if it agrees with your viewpoint, then it's just BS?
How anyone can watch Lewis' purposeful deceleration from in front of Kimi to behind Kimi and call it "gaining position", I will never know. Lewis went out of his way to comply with the rule that was written to allow for safe runoff areas that are not meant to be used as a racing line. Lewis used the runoff area for the purpose it was intended, to avoid an unsafe accident between him and Kimi. If it weren't for that rule, the safe runoff would not exist. Lewis knew it. He gave up the position that he gained out of respect for the safety of other drivers and the rules. Kimi isn't the only overly aggressive and unsafe driver that Ferrari has right now. In Hungary, Massa (like his teammate Kimi in this race) used a technique called "blocking" - an unsafe, unsportsmanlike maneuver - to push Hamilton off his racing line right after the start. When Ferrari actually kills someone, then maybe we'll see a change in F1. Massa quite nearly did that in the pits, but nothing was done about it. There's a difference between an honest mistake and gaining competitive advantage and masking it as a mistake. The FIA and Ferrari are liars. It's actually kind of pitiful.
Possibly, but the team is not fighting for the WDC. Massa's car does have mirrors as well. Coming out early is not his fault. Not giving way is.
+100000000 Saved me typing. Eddie Irvine has always been the comedian, the plane load of Fins remark is still one of the funniest, but people actually take him serious? Someone who through away a title that was handed to him on a plate
ha... Kimi pushed Lewis off the track? more like Lewis tried desperately and failed, to barge his way past Kimi. Kimi held his line, as far as i'm concerned.
Not sure about that one! He's an aspiring soapboxer but he did not throw away the title, remeber a certain wheel coming off in the pit lane?
