    Hello all,

I’m looking for information about the Marchairuz hillclimb (03.10.1960).

Edgar Berney drove with a “Ferrari 250” and finished 3. in the GT Class…

Does anyone has a photo from this event to identify this car?

Or in other words: Is it possible, that Berney’s SWB Interim S/N 1509GT was ready for this race after the DNF with engine problem’s / damage in the Tour de France (15.-23. September 1960)?

    Thanks and best wishes,

    BjörnS

No idea, but I'd expect him to have raced 1143GT. The correct date must be 2/Oct/60 which was a Sunday.

    Cheers, Kare

By January 1960 1143 GT belonged to Dr. Alfred Hopf of Basel. in 1961 Hopf sold it to Fritz Hatschek in Glarus, Switzerland.

    Hi Kare,

Yes, you’re correct, racing date was date was 02.10.1960…my fault, was a typo..
    And there are some candidates IF it wasn’t 1509GT..But I won’t speculate…

I found 2 things very interesting:
1.) Edgar Berney’s last race in 1960 was this hillclimb. Then he was in the entry list of some european races in spring/summer 1961 (like Spa and Rouen) with a Ferrari but (to my knowledge) did not show up at this events. Then he entered 250 GT LWB S/N 1401 GT (ex Spinedi) at the Rheinland-Pfalz-Preis, Nürburgring (06.08.1961), but suffered an engine damage in practise and did not start at the race.

Then came another “entry only” at the Tourist Trophy (19.08.1961) before he received his new 250 GT SWB S/N 2939 GT and start racing with this car at the Tour de France (14. - 22.09.1961).

It seems that he did not have a Ferrari (or other car) on hand to race in spring/summer 1961 till he received his 250 GT SWB S/N 2939 GT.

2.) 1509 GT last documented race was in autum 1960 (Tour de France or maybe the Marchairuz hillclimb) and then “disappeared” for nearly 18 months until it show up with Richard Huber in spring 1962. So what happened with the car during autum 1960 and spring 1962?

    best wishes,
    Björn

1509 GT went to Renzo Ansaloni in Bomporto, Italy, then to Balz Amschwand in Switzerland who had it on Swiss plates ZH 13601 in the name of his brother Werner Amschwand, then to Richard Huber with Swiss plates ZH 144257.

    Hello Marcel,
thanks for the information about Renzo Ansaloni..Do you know when he bought 1509GT?
And didn't Richard Huber owned it BEFORE Amschwand? I have Huber with 1509 GT in spring of 1962 and then
    with Amschwand in late 1962...

    best wishes,
    BjörnS
