I know I said I was going to go with another car, but tell me if I am crazy. The edmunds 308 is for sale. I have been reading about that car for almost a year and always thought...if that car ever comes up for sale!! Now it is and, surprisingly, it appears that there is not much interest in it. Given my situation, it makes absolutely no sense, I mean, my company is wiling to pretty much fund the payments on an 04 Maserati GT (a truly awesome car by the way---I was blown away by it actually) so I really have no business even looking at this car. What do you think? I have talked to them and the price would be high if it wasn't the Edmunds car. I don't mind the price premium. The only thing that scares me is that the last major was done in 2001 and they haven't exactly been loose with their wallets in making the car right. On the other side of the coin it has been running like a top lately

    Thoughts?

They paid $28k for it about a year ago with 46k miles on the clock. Not sure how many miles are on her now. I'd guess ~50k so the car, in need of a svc. is probably worth about the same or slightly more if in great shape. I wouldn't pay an "edmunds" premium. That's worse than a celebrity being a previous owner.

I think their goal is to break even. They bought it for $28K, they put $5K in, they want $33K for it now. Personally, I hope they get their price - it would really shut a lot of people up if Edmunds could post that the total ownership costs of their long term fleet Ferrari, which they drove for regularly for one year, were $0!

This is an interesting opportunity, this is a car that you know has been used regularly recently and has had all of it's dirty laundry aired in public. My concern is that, while the car seems to be running well, if you read some of the posts, you can tell that there are still quite a few differed maintenance issues surrounding the car. I think the car is worth a serious look, just proceed with caution.

    Regards,

    Art S.

Like others have said, my complaint with this car is that they bought it and then just basically did the bare minimum to keep it running while they let the staff all drive it around for a year. So you have a year of various people who don't own it driving it, and minimal maintenance. I'm not saying they abused the car, just that it wasn't owned and driven by a single enthusiast owner as most are, but treated a bit like an exotic rental. You will need to go through the car thoroughly and have a proper major performed.

    Just my $.02.
