Any comments on how much of an effect changing the exterior and interior colors of a (say) GT4 from original to new-non-ferrari color would have on resale values.

If, for example I bought one and matched it to my girlfriends nail-polish....

do you have any more information? what colour is the car now and what interior/exterior are you looking at? that will make a difference.

For maximum resale value, you have 2 choices. Red with tan or red with black interior. Rosso Chiaro is probably the best resale shade.

If you wish to achieve some credibility around other owners, keep to the original colour range. No one cares if you change the original colour, but you will be quietly pitied if you change to a non-period colour.

I have been looking at a silver one with blue interior and I am kind of partial to burgundy and tan as a color scheme in life in general

was burgundy an original colour for a GT4? with the current values of GT4's i couldn't see the value in a complete colour change inside and out. the cost to do it correctly would outweigh the cost of the car. just my $0.02c.

That's a good point. I guess I would like a highly individualistic but classic car that I will not lose too much money on over time. Or - to put it another way - if I spent $30k on re-colouring the car would I lose all of that money on resale or would I also get less than what I originally paid for the car.

I have only recently begun thinking about Fcars as was previously strictly a MBZ person.

    Why do you care?

my lambo urraco was originally lime green with electric blue interior, some knucklehead painted it silver and on the 11th coat of paint the car weighed 300kg more.
after full body off restoration the car is returned to lime green with electric blue interior.
but in answer to your question, if ypu are not gonna sell it- it doesnt matter so long as you are happy.

the 330 in the workshop now is like aqua blue matallic, really it should be dark navy blue metallic in keeping with northern Italy circa 1960's, the aqua suits miami vice in 1965

good GT4's seem to be in the $50k - $65k range. spending another $30k to change the colour wont make a $50k car an $80k car - especially if it's a non original colour for the car. if you're planning on keeping the car forever, then do what you like, but if the possibility exists for resale then consider your options very carefully.

some more teaser shots. the pics of the front suspension show everything has been replaced new even to the extent that all hoses are braided steel, every bush bearing seal has also been done, the exhaust is a new stainless steel one from Canada imported cos its the only company on the planet who has the right template for the system

The nearest colour to burgundy is Rosso Rubino, a deep ruby red that is an old school Ferrari colour and looks great on most things up to Daytona's, but I don't believe suits the angular GT4 shape.

Buy the silver with blue car, one of the best combinations for a GT4. Save your colour-change money for running costs.

Thanks Ian, Got a picture of anything in this color?

I would buy it today if I could get the guy to knock $20 k off the $77k asking price (as mentioned in previous threads....) in the meantime am waiting to talk to a member of FCA about other's that might be on the market but not advertised.

I think it looks great too, a credit to their skills.

What size spanner do the bleed nipples on the front calipers take? Is it 7mm? I need 6 nipples for the rear calipers of my car, they're smaller than the fronts (about 60% of the length) and no one has got them.

Do you think the Lambo ones might fit? Can you suggest a supplier?

but we stayed on topic for 10 posts - that's nearly a record here. oh, and just to get back on topic, the lambo driver also has one of the nicest GT4's around.

This is eurospec's photo from post 19 of the Darling Harbour sneak preview thread. A GT4 in Rubino with an unfortunate white stripe.

The 250PF Cabrio in post 86 of the same thread is a better photo of Rosso Rubino.

Are you insane? Can you honestly believe the dealer has over $20,000 profit to play with in this car? If its the one I think (N.Sydney) then this is probably one of the best and most original GT4's you will find anywhere. The dealer who invested in it knows this and he will eventually find a customer who understands the value of something beyond mere money. I agree most good GT4's average $50k and at $77k this one is a bit strong, but for the difference of $27k you could never replicate this car. Try negotiating for maybe $5k to avoid being laughed out the shop. My old saying : "You can never pay too much for the right car, only you might pay it too soon"
    Good luck.
