I was just discussing possibly purchasing a 458 tomorrow and while looking online I see lots of them with very low mileage. It made me wonder why folks buy and not enjoy them. This post is exactly what I needed to see. You've inspired me to make the plunge.

So neat that you actually drive your 458 as much as you do. Any major issues or breakdowns in the 50k miles? Just curious how you fared. I have a 2013 spider with nearly 15K on the clock and world love to hear your impressions and feedback.

My 2015 458 Italia now has 12k “smiles” on the odometer... 4K of which were put on in the last eight months. You’ll love the 458, it’s an epic experience!!! [emoji2] Image Unavailable, Please Login

The 458 is one of the best modern Ferrari’s.

@ferrarifam I've had no major issues or breakdowns. I have had a couple issues that should have been small (e.g. replacing a TPMS sensor in a wheel and other simple issues) but they were made worse by incompetence in the service department at the local dealership the past 3-4 years. Now that my car is out of warranty, I take it to an outstanding independent shop for service.

The car has been a joy to drive and a joy to own. She is perfect for going on a date with my wife at a fine restaurant, getting groceries at the super market or fetching small parts at Home Depot. She is perfect for spirited (but safe) drives in the Texas Hill Country. I did eight track days with her, including five at COTA, and she felt right at home. (NOTE: I now scratch my track-day itch with a track prepped Porsche Cayman S).

I fell in love with the 458 when I saw one on the cover of a magazine in August 2011. I put down my deposit in March 2012 and took delivery August 1st 2012 knowing that I would keep (and drive) the car "forever". Yeah, "high" mileage Ferraris don't sell for as much as low mileage ones. That will be a problem for the executor of my estate.

    Peace...

8k on my 458 this year so far. Ferrari of Atlanta service manager calls the 458 his Toyota because they don't break. I drive it everywhere, hasn't melted in the rain yet. Though the PPF may need replacing. Our local 'social distance driving club' can kick up a little dust on the back roads! But someone has to show these Porches what a Ferrari sounds like at 9000 rpm. Love seeing it in the garage, but way more fun to drive and well worth whatever the depreciation trade off may be. Image Unavailable, Please Login

50k miles including racetrack action. Hats off to you, Joe. Extremely inspiring post. And to think some prospective buyers are put off by cars over 10 or 20k miles...

    Keep enjoying in good health.

    Kind regards,

    Nuno.

OK..so, as an F430 spider owner, I was contemplating trading up to a 458 spider next year, but (other) posts on here about the DCT clutch issue, among others, had made me nervous given the potential $ expense Super glad to see that these cars are also handling their mileage well, as like others on this thread, I am fortunate to own a ferrari, and I too would rather drive it than stare at it mine is an '07 with 22K miles that I purchased last year with 19K miles had the summer here in FL not been so hot these oast four months, she would have had 25K miles on her nothing like cracking a shift at 8500 rpm always makes me giggle!

I just bought a 2013 458 Spider in July with 10k miles on it from Denver Ferrari. Like you I plan to drive it but have only put about 500 miles on it so far. A 458 is still wonderful garage art whether it is low or high mileage.

Mine is even allowed to get dusty. In fact I have yet to wash it . I live on a short semi gravel road so keeping it perfectly detailed is not possible. In my experience the more washing one does, the greater the chance of paint swirls or scratches due to the friction of getting the dust off. It's not that I don't fret and take care of it. But I refrain from washing my cars unless they are really dirty. I spend more time focused on keeping the interiors as nice as possible, conditioned etc.

Anyhow, I have been fortunate enough to have owned a number of very nice sports cars including a 2014 Porsche GT3 and a Ford GT (05). It's both the most overall capable car and the one most fun to drive, fully arousing all my senses. It would be criminal to just let it sit in the garage.

Not one of the best, but the BEST. After Montezzemolo and IPO, it's downhill from there as you can see. 458 had a ton of real innovations at the time that took the competition 5 years plus to catch up. Look at 488, F8 - change the shape (like everything chopped off), market some aero improvements, which meant very little to real life drivers (not going on track every weekend you know) vs. say the sound and beauty of the noise of the 458 Italia. It was the best sound I have ever heard, I have never heard a woman in bed that sounded as good!

I love the fact you drive it with no concerns about depreciation, high mileage, wear and tear. Just driving, as it should be.

2013 458 Spider with 19,345 miles with nothing but secondary air valve replacement by Moorespeed. I've put 12,000 miles on it in 2 years of ownership. It's been the most enjoyable car ever owned.

*** But for many months I did have a whole host of bizarre issues with all sorts of random problems, misc engine failure codes, including major roof malfunctions...but once I replaced the battery that solved everything. This red top Odyssey battery failed overnight suddenly and completely (zero charge) 3 weeks after warranty expired! I now have an Antigravity battery.

We have an FCA member with a 2013 Italia that is near 100k miles. Other than tires and fluids, the only failure he has experienced was something with the turn signals that required a component replacement in the dash. He has been incredibly happy with the reliability. I asked about the brakes and he said they are still fine, and the originals (he does not regularly track the car, though I believe he has attended one or two track events in those 7 years). Simply amazing, and a testament to the quality of these cars.
