El Nino appears to be back..which usually translates into mild winters. I say welcome and stay a while this time. http://www.cnn.com/2006/WEATHER/09/13/weather.nino.reut/index.html
Hi Clyde and guys...just saw this thread. We have just gone through four tough winters...an unprecedented string of four heavy seasonal snow totals...over 40 inches each winter at Central Park. Just the odds would favor a milder and less snowy winter this time around, with a couple of caveats. First, the El Nino signal on winter weather is not nearly as strong here in the Northeast as it is out west and in the south. Second, El Nino favors east coast and west coast coastal storms and if one of the east coast storms were to phase just right with a cold air outbreak there could be one big winter snow storm, usually in February. but during El Nino winters, a heavy rain storm usually washes away the snow (and cleans the salt off the roads) within a week thereafter. Third, if we are to believe the global warming alarmists, the usual weather cycles are disrupted and recent patterns will persist and amplify so one record warm summer after another could be followed by a similar string of cold snowy winters in the NE (and in western Europe).
