Thanks for posting that! I was disappointed to read about the cut out. The EZ ad said no cutting or hole drilling required. It would be REALLY upsetting to order it thinking no cutting is necessary (per ad) and then find out when you receive the kit that you have to cut a hole! I'd really like having PS but I'm not cutting a hole in the car.
A belated Happy Birthday Bruno. Regarding the topic. I think, the feel of the standard steering belongs to the personality of the car. I would not want to have my carb Euro GTB with a lighter steering, not with less noise, not with less anything like it ever was. If I want comfort I choose my modern daily driver. Same here in the mid-fifties. The only difficult thing is enganging reverse gear, when she needs both hands and arms Best from Germany Martin
One thing on mine: from start-up, reverse really doesn't want to engage. But choose first, then choose reverse, smooth as butter.
Ah. I may know of a modification that make it easier; you'll only need to cut an 8cm square into the gearbox and connect a few wires.
I called the company asking them to verify positively that a hole has to be cut. The person I talked said he didn't think so but admitted he wasn't sure about the particular application and said a tech would call me back. I realize that the posted instructions say it is required but I'm hoping maybe they have made a change at some point since their ad says the opposite.
I just installed it because I have a quick rack and found that even though the steering is easily manageable at low speed, it's actually when you're pushing it through the hills where the steering really loads up that it becomes tiresome after an hour or 2. Therefore, I got the load adjustable one rather than speed sensitive, as turning it off at speed would defeat the purpose for me. It has a rheostat and I can make the steering as light or heavy as I want, or easily pull the fuse for it and turn it off completely. When off, it's like it's not there at all, which surprised me. I recommend it if you have spaghetti arms like Pat has or if you have a quick rack and like driving fast around corners.
Nope. The instructions are for a 328, but the installation is the same. I modified mine to make it more secure and tuck it up higher Sent from my SM-N920I using FerrariChat.com mobile app
I am about to do the quick rack on my gt4 and was thinking about this. I’ll do the rack first and then see how it goes
My 83 Mondial without power steering, is saving me money. By motoring around the office parking garage 3 or 4 times a week at the posted 10 mph. I got rid of my gym membership. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Yeah, My upper body strength is much improved because of my 328. Unfortunately, since I don't do any other exercise, I now look freakish - like the longbow archers in old England! Oh well...
I don't know what that does, but as I said, it's not heavy with normal driving. Only when it loads up in corners during spirited driving.
The steering box takes X amount of force to turn; X is highest when the car is at rest, and becomes less as the car gains speed. Adjusting the shims in the steering box can increase or decrease Base X.
But there's a correct and measurable value, isn't there? Anyway, mine has the opposite characteristics ... Slow speed cornering takes lower effort than high speed.
Re the hole-cutting.. . Even if I could get around that, I would think the hole to mount the PS unit also leaves a large opening so more hot Texas summer air can enter the car and further tax the limited ability of the AC.
