Another problem fixed on my 348 rebuild. (I bought the 348 with more electrical problems than you could shake a stick at) (silly expression I know)

So the latest focus of my attention was the electric wing mirrors. They had a habit of working one day but then wouldn't work the next. (So frustrating !) I followed cables back to fuse boxes, checked all connections and fuses but the problem persisted. It took ages before I realised that when I sat on the doorstep and tested the wing mirrors they always worked. It was when I was driving they didn't. Ha !......problem solved. When the door was open they worked and when it was closed they didn't. So peeling back the rubber bellows on the door jamb cable connection I found the blue/black power cable had almost sheared off and only made contact when the door was open. So stripping out the connection I resoldered it into place and the wing mirrors are now working fine. (this is the second problem I have had caused by a broken cable in the door connection, the first was the red light in the door reveal)

I still fail to understand how such a prestigious car (and so expensive) has such crappy electrics. Have you ever stripped back the plastic on one of the cables and found the wires inside have gone black. This is a reaction between cheap plastic over cheap wire. I have never worked on a car with so many electrical problems which have all been caused by bad connections and/or broken cables.

Next problem on the list is finding out why the fuse for the dashboard illumination blows when I turn the headlights on. - Ha ha......Funny old world.

    Happy Ferrari-ing

My suggestion on your dashboard lights would be to check the illumination ring around the cigarette lighter in the center console.

Good job on fixing the mirror!
