I'm new to the 458 world and have a question - This morning I my car started really slow and a light came on that said "Electrical Failure - take to dealer". I let it idle a bit and then turned it off. It started right back up normally and there was no message. Is this a common issue? The car had been sitting since Sunday afternoon.

I had a 430 before this car and never had any issue with it sitting for several days. Just want to make sure I don't do anything that is going to leave me stranded if I can prevent it.

    Thanks

make sure it's on the trickle charger after you drive it.. anything longer than 3 days and it may not start or have issues... just my experiences in my short time of ownership..

Yep low battery. Gotta keep her charged. Turn off, charge, turn back on everything should be good.

Along the line of thinking on battery, how old is the battery? These cars are very very sensitive to low voltage due. If the battery is 4+ years old, especially if its the OEM one, it is likely time to change it.

I had this happen after my 458 was returned from service. Called the dealer. They said no problem. They said probably did not reset the system after the car was taken off the truck and then immediately shut down. So l restarted the car. No problem and have not had a problem since.

I replaced my battery after 4 years as an abundance of caution as it is 3.5 hours to the dealer.
So it doesn't sound like mine was the battery. And l try to keep the charger going when the car is parked in the garage.

I have a 2014 that was bought new in March 2014 and this past spring I had same issue. So while at dealer for annual service, asked them to test it. They had car for a week and was told battery is fine and charging correctly. The trickle charger was also checked and no issues. No electrical issues etc. Yet after bringing car home, very next day same problem and despite putting on charger when not being driven, same issue.

I should have just replaced the battery since its 3 years old but was told its $800 to replace and not necessary by the dealer. I agree with other in that they are very sensitive to current fluctuations. Next visit I'm replacing it no matter what.

Thanks guys, good feedback and advice. I appreciate all the comments.

My car came with a battery tender. I just found it in a duffel bag in the trunk. Is is pretty easy to connect? If so, where do I plug it in? Or, is this something that needs to be installed by a dealer?

If it's the same as my 2013 458, it's very easy. On passenger side on the right, close to the door. Plug in there first, then plug charger into wall.

You can also get this problem with a fully maintained AGM top of the line battery.
If the car has been standing for a long time eg. weeks -> months. Then I think the current draw on cranking is sufficient to pull the voltage down and trigger the warning. A V8 stood for a long time will have all the oil drained down, you can sense the starter really struggling to turn over the engine. Once it is warm or weekly used it is not a problem is the battery is tip top.

I've found that if you put the key in and hit the start button instantly, alarm messages sometimes come up. BUT if you turn the ignition key on, and wait until all the lights turn on, and the computers come to life, NO PROBLEM. I think there's a LOT of computer thinking going on in that first few seconds.

When I got the dreaded take the car to dealer alarm, I just shut the engine off and started over, taking my TIME to hit the start button, problem solved.

But Why it Start up at Second time normal without Warnung light.
Battery is new.after someone Weeks allways the same.starter turns slowly andwarning comes on.
Second Start starter turns normal Speed and no issues.
Perhaps in the zylinders there is no Oil and fuel to grease inside at first Start.(Slow starter turning with high ampere)

This has nothing at all to do with the lubrication of the pistons and liners! - It is a battery issue. If the starter is not winding the engine over fast enough this can only be an electrical power related issue to do with battery charge being inadequate. Don't worry about the battery being new. That means nothing in a Ferrari. If you had a lack of lubrication or, piston to bore clearance issues the problem would be infinitely greater.

I started getting this message a lot when starting. Always on the battery tender. Second start is OK. I was leaving my headlights on auto so when the car is in the garage the headlights are on even before cranking while on battery. I turned the headlights off when parked in the garage and stopped getting the message.
