This is an excellent upgrade for the 308s!! I installed one of these systems in my '78 308 GTS several years ago, and the engine really came to life. No more messing around with outrageously expensive distributor caps, rotors, points, etc. and all the problems associated with points timing. Just install it and go. Plus, Wade makes a great mounting bracket for the coils and the caps to close off the cam ends once the distributors are removed. Best of luck with the new product line, Wade!! My 308 engine bay with XDI installed (coils on Wade's bracket can be seen to the left of the picture). Image Unavailable, Please Login
I installed mine over a weekend and have never looked back! This is the single, most impactful upgrade that you can make to a 308! If you DRIVE your 308, you NEED this upgrade! (or one like it). I have the Electromotive from Nick's and LOVE IT! FWIW, YMMV JIM
Here are some pics of the 87 328 Euro that I have been restoring/reviving My blocks are on this one and my cam plugs, included with the ignition system. Wade Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Here are some pics of the coil blocks and cam end plugs (injected cars only). You will see on a couple of pics there is some black sealer between the block and cam cover. I don't recomend installing like this, these were blocks I sold a customer and he had his mechanic install them (I have the car here now and will be removing the blocks to do the 30k service and will use the OEM gaskets). My recomendation is to use the OEM gasket, I have never had a problem with my blocks leaking using the OEM gasket. Also pictured are cam block off plates and a differnt coil mount, made for Steve Weinsteins(FasterIsBetter) 78 308 Note: Steve's 78 and the car I did not do the install on purchased their systems through Nick at Nicks Forza Ferrari, same system which I am now selling but I'm doing the ignition side only for now. Thanks!! My car, which I did with Wade's mounting bracket and cam end cover plates, are the bottom two pictures in Wade's last post. Rather than mounting the coils on the cam end plates, we opted for the separate bracket that was attached to the mount where the original coils were located (just marked and drilled holes, used the "stock" studs where the original coils mounted). The end plates were installed using regular distributor gaskets and some Hylomar. They really worked out great. What I will say, and I learned this the hard way very recently, is that you must be sure that your grounding is really good on the car, both at the battery and between the engine and the chassis. If voltage to the system drops below 11v, the Electromotive unit will not see the crank signal, and you won't fire. You MUST be sure that your battery is in good condition, and either change the stock grounding strap from engine to chassis to a heavy duty one, or add extra grounds between chassis and engine. And be sure the Electromotive unit is properly grounded as well. Check the battery ground cable, and be sure it is in good condition and contact point to chassis is very good. (If you haven't figured it out, I'm really, really big on grounding issues; they are IMHO the source of most electrical problems on old cars.)
How much for that mounting plate. I already have the system installed, but I don't like the way the PO mounted it.
