    Hi all,

I've got a question regarding my tacho; '67 Mexico, Smiths gauges.

After some at times unreliable running, my mechanic has fitted the Bosch kit to convert my distributor to electronic ignition. The car is running great, but the tach is not functional since the conversion. I know many of you have dealt with this before- would appreciate tips! Does the tach need to be converted somehow as well?

    Thanks

    Hello Remi,
no answer to this post. I'm trying to solve the same problem on my 1968 Mexico, the last electric thing that doesn't work ! I quickly discovered that the Smiths tacho can't work with my Bosch CDI unit. The Smiths tacho is an early RVI type. These instruments used an inductive pickup to sense ignition current. This is the white loop on the picture. I have send it to a company in UK in order to convert the system to RVC type. I hope it will solve the problem.

    An interesting reading : http://www.triumphclub.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/A-gentlemans-guide-to-Smiths-tachometers-V3.0.pdf

Thanks- a local classic instruments company solved my issue, likely by sorting it exactly as you have outlined above! So it has been all good for a long while now.
