I tried to purchase the PerTronix Magnetic trigger ignition from Summit in early August, now they tell me they don't know when it will be shipped. I am now looking for an alternatve. Has anyone installed the Crane XR700, any problems with delivery.

Have you tried a different dealer for the Pertonix conversion kit, Jegs lists the MR-161 with a delivery time of eight days.

Amazon lists the Crane XR 700-0231 as 'in stock'. From a technical perspective that would be my recommendation over the Pertronix, as the Pertronix Ignitor MR-161 is sensitive to overheating and then reduces the output current considerably.

Both conversions require a tacho adapter, as they don't feature an electronic tach output.

I have done the crane in both a Fiat Dino and a real Dino, I recommend it but only because it worked both times :)

I have installed the Crane XR700 and MSD 6A in three Dinos and my Alpine A110. Great system. No problems. No hiccups.

I used thier version and it worked fine. I was concerned about the tach circuit because of the sensitivity of the electronics but every thing workrd fine after I communicated with one of the members whom I am ashamed that I do not remember. I will reseaech my paper work and geet back to you. Call petronics directly, they are in California.

PerTronix MR-161 is now updated to MR-161A. The Ignitor 2 version is also now available under part number 9MR-161A. This Ignitor has adaptive dwell and will certainly up the performance as spark energy is increased considerably. Low resistance high output coils can be used with it.

    Clay,

how did you wire up the Veglia tach to the Pertronix ignition? The Veglia tach has a transistorized input stage triggering on ground potential (points output), so directly connecting it to the coil wouldn't be too healthy. Did you use any type of tach converter or resistor?
