Is there anyway to turn off the electronically governed speed control on cars? I was looking at the 2005 Mercedes SL65 AMG, and it says the top speed is 155mph electronically governed. That seems awfully slow for a V-12 biturbo.

I removed the one from my old 96 Impala that kept it under 155 with a Hypertech Power Programmer, not sure if hypertech makes one to work on a Merc though. There are other companies that make them and one might make one for a Merc I suppose.

In the fun car magazine Evo, while covering the first SL65 to hit England they mentioned that if you buy the car direct from the factory you can delimit the car to 180 mph. Anything else would have to be Brabus or Renntech. Not sure if this factory option can be applied to the States but speeds above 155 can be asked for.
