    Could someone please tell me what the "Electrovalve switch controlled by engine speed" behind the kick plate does?

    The ECU in the passenger floor measures tachometer pulses from the distributor, hence engine rpm, to disable AIR pump above 4400 rpm IIRC. The electrovalves control vacuum to valves in the system, diverting pump output from hither to yon (tech talk). There is also a 122°F temperature sensor, below which the system is shut down. The 1978 OM has a discussion near page 74.
