    Read this and the responses below with interest and I tend to agree with you...all the eggs in one place is silly. But, the exercise has value, as Taz so well illustrated, in practicing getting a large unit from one place to another, together, on time. The leadership likely sees the benefits as outweighing the risks. Regarding taking them all out...probably could be done and we wouldn't likely have an opportunity to do anything about it, except cry. A King Air wandering around Alaska is not terribly unusual, and a "disoriented" one trying to work it's way around an air base can be confusing to everyone until it ceases to be confusing when it's true purpose is realized...just sayin'!
