Eliminating residual fuel smell

My dear friend and mechanic 2NA recently replaced the plastic fuel pump caps with the improved aftermarket jobs. The fuel smell in the car all but disappeared...but there's still some residual smell in the trunk that will saturate parcels left in there and that can waft into the cabin.

Anyone got a magic trick for eliminating that, other than burning off the back end of the car?

 

I had the same issue and replaced these three seals....no more fuel smell.

The picture above is a 550 fuel tank. The 456GT doesn't have rollover valves.

Guessing I'm going to be putting activated charcoal back there...that and maybe leaving the trunk open while the car is parked in the garage for a while.

Probably still some residual gasoline left in the carpeting back there. You might try removing them and drying them in the sun. Then use a good carpet cleaner to finish the job. Resolve has worked well on carpets for us, even on coffee stains. If the carpets are too much of a pain to remove, just the Resolve and leaving the trunk open probably will work.

 

Terry this is exactly what I did. A decent auto carpet shampoo also helps. You can leave the boot/trunk ajar to help vent the area.
The trunk/boot switch doesn't operate until it is more than 1/4 open, you can hear the ball klunk as the contacts are made.
