Email virus question

Okay, so I just got an email with a message saying outlook blocked a potentially harmful message. The originating email address was a Ferrari Dealership G.M. that I have never been in contact with before. So I replied to his email asking him if he was trying to reach me. He responded by calling to my attention that I had sent him a message w/ a virus.

I called him, and we both agreed that neither of us have each other in our address book, and neither of us were trying to reach the other today. Of course, both of us are running antivirus programs, and think that it's the other guy with the problem.

So here's the part I don't understand.

Regardless of who's computer was infected first, how on earth did the virus link our two email addresses? I was under the impression that in order for one computer virus to email itself to another one, the address has to be in the infected person's address book, which wasn't true in either of our cases.


Any ideas?

BTW, the virus is HTML_Netsky.P

 

most likely, has nothing to do at all with Ferrarichat. someone out there is infected who has both your addresses in their address book. that system out there is just spamming people with viruses that are TO: and FROM: randomly generated addresses that may or may not originate from a personal address book.
