In a Mean Machines episode on the Discovery Channel, a 360 Modena was pitted against a Corvette. The 360 won the braking and skid pad challenges, and the Corvette won the acceleration and track challenges by huge margins. The 360 was 50% slower in acceleration and 17 seconds slower around the high speed track. The Corvette was declared the overall winner.

The cars were driven by their respective owners. The Ferrari owner was shown spinning out several times. He said that driving on the skid pad allowed him to find the limits of his car. Apparently he had no track experience and it showed in his driving and comments.

The 360 probably would have done much better if it was driven by a good driver. The show was an embarrassment to Ferrari!

I think this was discussed on another board and IIRC the vette was the last Z06 .

I think you meant to say "The show was an embarrasment to the driver of the Ferrari"
I don't see how a bad driver, with self professed lack of driving experience could embarras Ferrari. It's not like the factory hired him to compete on their behalf.

Yeah that showed here in Australia on the discovery channel the other day. I would like to see the same driver do the tests in each car. Get Tiff Needel to do it...

It was not a fair fight pitting a brand new Z06 against a 360. Stupid show............

+1, why not put a new F430 Scuderia against a regular 1999 Corvette Coupe... :)

It isn't worth a visit to Tube. The results were as predictable as a Seinfeld rerun. The hatchet job they did on the owner of the 360 was unfair. It was edited to portray him as a gloating windbag with an underperforming car.

I saw this also. How is it they compare an older model car against another manufacturer's latest model, regardless if it was the Ferrari 360. They should have compared the 575M, this would have represented a closer comparison.

Also they noted the Ferrari was the best from Italy, it would appear that the director and narrator had no idea about F-cars.

It was at least a very good demonstration of lack of knowledge.

I kind of enjoyed watching it, knowing all the time of course that the corvette had almost twice the displacement as the 360. So in my view it wasn't really a fair comparison. Wonder what the results would've been with a 7 litre Ferrari?

I wasn't all that impressed with the Fcar driver. His driving seemed tentative to me.

Quite a few folks here seem to think the whole concept was a bad idea - but I think such a show would be fascinating if each driver got 3 or 4 laps in their own car, then swapped rides and did the same number of laps.

I think you guys should lighten up. Just because two guys with unknown driving abilities go up against each other in two different cars and one beats the other proves almost nothing. Was it the car"s ability, the driver's ability, etc.

At the end of the day a corvette (no matter what corvette it is) it's not in the same league with any Ferrari. We all know that.

Has a comparison ever been done between the CS and C6 ZO6? I'd really love to see the outcome of that also.....

All car enthusiasts agree with you, but the average Joe or Jane may believe the show's conclusion.

I was surprised that the show's producers were so uninformed about making a fair comparison test.

Either way the Ferrari was fighting a losing battle against the Vette. The Z06 will walk a 360 in reverse with my handicaped grandmother knitting a sweater behined the wheel. Get over it all ready. Driver skill had nothing to do with the out come in this case. The faster car won..end of story.

You could put anyone behind the wheel of the 360 and the vette would smoke it. It's just the way it is. As nice as the 360's are, they are alot of bark and less bite. However, I would still drive the 360 home 247/365 over the vette.

I think the Vette is very cool, just not as cool as the Ferrari. And if its speed you want, I could build something in my garage thats faster then the Vette.

If a Ferrari and another car battle, The Ferrari always wins. It's not about 1/4 mile speed...
