hi, i have a 80 gtsi that i want to install the air injection plugs into the heads(and get rid of exhaust whistle). i did a search and found some threads that dealt with this, but i couldn't find one where someone was able to install them all with the engine still in the car. anyone have success doing it on a 2 valve injected car? and how were the results? thanks in advance - keith

Doable, removing the fuel tank (RH) can get you access to the front side head.

At least in my older car...(1976-77)

Any snags might have you pulling the motor tho......and welcome!!
Maybe someone will post a good thread link..."Search" doesn't alway find it.
    At least you tried!!

Does whistling occur because of missing air injection plugs, or from the perforated exhaust outlet?

The old steel tubing rails of the injection system can rust and leak.....

You are correct the tip insets loose can make a similar noise....

Order some PB Blaster or Kroils first.....

The fastest I have seen it done is to strip the pumps rails and valve and put the right sized ball bearing under the jam nut of the nozzles, abandoning them in place......;)

If you run into a nozzle where the perforated injection tube is melted and bent, you'll be there awhile......
