Put a new fuel pump in ~ 4 weeks ago. Everything good. Just got a pump sign on the dash and all the fuel 'bars' are empty. Pump was the one with the float for fuel level. Any connections... Maybe faulty pump assembly? 360 spider 2003 .

    So drivers side fuel pump.

    1) When did you put gas in it? (IS there actually gas in the tank?)
    2) Is there any fuel dripping on the ground? (Is there a leak in the connections between the tanks)
    3) Is the electrical connection on the top of the fuel pump still connected?

Either you actually don't have fuel in your tank, the sender unit has an error in the connection or mechanism, theres an issue with the sender unit..

It could be that the sender assembly in the tank has gone bad..

Tank is 90% full. No gas leaking. I'll check the connections now. Thanks for the quick reply!

If full and the car is running normally (i.e. the fuel pump on that side is working well) then its a bad connection, the sender is funky/bad, or there is funkiness in the wiring to the gauge. When you get the panel off on the pump side, disconnect and then reconnect the connector at the pump. Then see what the gauge says.

Edit: at the pump connector the blue colored wire looks like its the output from the fuel level sender. If it were me I'd put a rheostat to check the resistance, but I'm not going to tell anyone to do that to their car.

Checked connections.... Took them off/on...no difference. Even went to the gas station...took ~ 3 galls to fill up. Must be sender unit. Thanks again.

    Just to recap....

    a) New fuel pump (left hand said) in 360 Spider.
    b) Worked fine for 2 months.
    c) Then lost all the bars in the fuel gauge and the gas pump empty sign starts flashing.
    d) Tested the connections...all solid.
    e) Put a gauge across the pump terminals and moved the float..nothing.
    f) Put it all back together.

    ...now the strange bit.

Out for a drive with 'no bars' on the fuel gauge. Then after 5 minutes driving..1 bar appears. 10 minutes...2 bars...30 minutes all bars.

Next day out for a drive...all bars vanish again...but after 5 minutes of 'no bars'..1 bar appears...then 2..then........get the picture.

Ricambi has offered to replace the pump and it should arrive soon.

Anyone have any ideas what's going on?

    Pete

Why did you replace the pump in the first place, fuel leak? Did gauge work fine with the old pump? If so I would say it must be in the sending unit as that was your only change and swapping it out should fix it. You can also look at the wiring diagram for any relays in-line or fuse issues but if you didn't touch anything else and had the battery disconnected during install I doubt you fried anything. Also, did you go through the whole power reset procedure after reconnecting the battery? Maybe try that one more time..

Fuel level sender is indeed bad.. or the connection wiring is wonky movement is causing a ground to go.. or the instrument panel is funky. Though the reset idea is a good one.
I'd try turning off power, then turn on. Then work from left to right above..

In the fuel pump if there are three lines in its going to be a common ground (-) then one line to the pump (prob red) and then the line to the fuel level sender (blue i think).
