Anyone have any experience with shipping a car from the Seattle area to Alaska? If so who did you use?

Is the Seattle-Anchorage barge an option?

Well the price of the barge and then enclosed transport from Anchorage to Fairbanks is close to $4500. I’d like to at least know how much a door to door service is. That way unknown people won’t be driving the car on and off the barge. Also since the car is more than 20 years old you have to sign a release of liability on the car.

I was surprised when I tried looking up the AK ferry, thinking it would be fun to take a road trip/ ferry ride up or back. Holy crap it added up quickly.... nah, I'll just fly next time I wanna visit. :)

Couldn't you pick it up off the barge and then drive it to Fairbanks? I realize the weather window is probably closing for that, maybe in the spring?

Roads already have had sand rocks and salt applied in the higher elevations. Luckily I found a guy with an enclosed trailer for the Anchorage to Fairbanks portion. The cost of shipping is pretty high but that’s just a fact of life up here. I would have brought the car up earlier but Metropolitan Detail in Seattle was booked 60 days out. They did have a cancelation but that was when the wife was having her knee replaced.

    2. John @ carworx

Thx everyone for the leads. It’s looking like an enclosed container on the ship and then I found a guy with an enclosed trailer from Anchorage to Fairbanks.

All this talk about a new car but not one mention of what it is? ;)

Glad you figured out a solution.
