Meh. I, like most of us, fall prey to vanity and take up the challenge often when someone "gets lippy" in another car at a stoplight. And afterward I always tell myself "Don't do that again" (knowing that I will).

Ultimately, there is *always* someone faster... no matter what you're in. And whatever you're in, the next version of that model will (most likely) be faster than the current one. It's a worthless treadmill to climb on and a hollow, fleeting brag.
My stock daily driver (Audi B5 S4) runs quarter mile times faster than my dad's stock bracket C drag-prepped (slicks, exhaust) '68 Camaro used to run back in the 70's/80's. Things keep getting faster.

In cases where I lose (or know I will without even trying), I think one statement sums it up:
"Which one wins when we're sitting still?"

People see a Tesla a stoplight and they say "Oh wow! A Tesla! Cool!"
I stop at a stoplight and cell phone cameras come out, people shout praise from their open windows, etc.

Bottom line, speed is only one factor of the car and is no match for rarity/exoticness and timeless style. A Tesla is a luxury car, a Ferrari is a *dream* car. ;) :)
