This is physics 1, you don't need an engineering degree, just some thought. Have you written down all your givens? Once you have that, create a free body diagram detailing all the givens and in which direction / manner they apply themselves to the mass. Once you've done that, start pairing up the forces that cancel each other out. Once you've finally found out your final total force equations in both x and y (and z=0) planes, you can apply 2Fmax and see which direction the object will travel.
