    Hey guys,
I'm troubleshooting some engine error codes. Can anyone tell me if bank number one is the left side i.e. Drivers side? I assume it is but like my drill instructor would say, assumptions are the mother of all f-ups.

The opposite. Driver side is bank 2.

I guess to clarify and not discriminate. Bank 2. Is the left side of the car if you are facing to the front of the car.

Drivers side in some parts of the world is bank 1.

Is the left bank in the wiring diagram the same as bank one? Sorry, I should have asked that in my original post.

You live in the USA. Our
drivers side is the left side of the car facing the front of the car.

UK cars , the drivers side is the right side of the car.

As I said , facing the front of the car , bank 2 is the left side of the car.

Being an aircraft avionics tech everything that says left or number one is on the left side (port) side of the aircraft. Or if inline with the fuselage number one is always forward. So that's my way of thinking. Italians just have to be different.

Bank 2 is port, bank 1 is starboard.

You're welcome. Take note to the cylinder number too - that will come in handy.

Now, what are the issues you are experiencing? 2.7 or 5.2 355?

Mine is a 1999 5.2. Wouldn't pass smog here in cali. I'm watching my obd2 tester and fault p1442 is pending. I think I have bank 2 port side O2 sensors mixed up. I was looking at a wiring diagram and the upstream sensor has a green wire (car side) on the 4 pin connecter. That would explain things. It's thinking the secondary air is inop for that side. I'm going to swap connections and see what happens. Thanks for the feedback.

Unplug the post CAT O2 sensor. You will get a CAT efficiency code very quickly. If you don't (you may get other codes) you will know right away.

If you get an OBDII scanner that can report live data, you will pick it up even quicker.

Do you hear the air pump whining for about two minutes on starting the car cold?

The air pump system has a few issues that you can troubleshoot. Your CEL code is pointing
    towards it.

Maybe this sounds strange, but do not look at the colors of the wires (alone). I had the same problem, switched connectors, and with the WSM diagram in hand I checked to see what was what.
To my surprise the colors did not match the WSM diagram! Not funny.
Then I found here in the archives of Fchat, in several postings from the past, that the pre-cat connectors have a blue ribbon and the post-cats have not.
It turned out my connectors were switched in the past. I switched them back, and in the end all was well, and even my SDL disappeared.
