Anyone know if the factory fitted carbon air intakes have a lacquer coat over the carbon? I am getting discolouration in patches around the tops of the manifolds and around the shield - looks heat related. Have tried a multitude of topical products after checking other forums. Including clay bar, Maguiars Scratch X. gentle rubbing / cutting compound, oxidation remover. The discolourations seems beneath the surface. I'm dreading it may be delamination.
Anyone else had this issue? I am considering taking it to a body shop for advice, but can see $$$. Plus I'd like to fix it myself if at all possible.A few photos showing the patches

The best thing to do is shoot an automotive urethane clear coat over kt. Ppg or glasurit. I prefer glasurit. Ferrari carbon parts are finished with a clear gel coat, but even the best gel coat is not as good as an automotive clear coat, which offers better protection against its environment.

Anyone ever soda blast the clear gel down to the carbon fiber and re spray using an automotive clear coat ?

FNA sends them to a place in GA which has been discussed several times here. I believe they used soda blasting but not sure what type of a finish they use.

Same deal on my airboxes. I try to pop the engine cover after drives when possible. Always after sessions on the track.

I recall at least one person correcting it if you search. Involved stripping and re clearing I believe as shineken points out.

Yellowing of the part is not from the carbon it is the resin used to make it, some resins are not UV or high temperature stable and over time they start to break down. The only way to fix this is by carefully wet rubbing the part until the water turns from white to black, then you can finish off with a UV stable clear coat.

The higher temperature the cure the more stable the resin is, some low temp cured vacuum only parts have very little UV stabilisers in them because they don’t wet out that easy in the curing stages.

Steve is correct, its the clear coat that is causing it to get milky.
The clear will need to be taken down and rebuilt back up with a better hi-temp resin
Good luck and let us know if we are needed

Thanks all for the invaluable advice. I think I will get a pro body shop to strip back the gel and re-coat -whilst I am quite handy I am too risk averse with these manifolds...it doesn't look like a rattle-can solution....

Glenn -would love to use your services, but I'm not sure you cover the greater Cape Town area :)

    Hello

Im from Germany near Stuttgart , but the grinding is not very difficult they must be careful that they not grind in the Carbonfiber , the company grind 0,2 mm from the resin and they look with acetone / alkohol spray whether the milky 's gone ( acetone makes visually how it would look with new clear paint ) I Pay for the complete job 500 € ( 555 Dollar )

Sorry my english is very bad , reading is ok , but write not realy :-D

    Greetings
