    I had the same issue as the OP with regard to the insulating material next to the coolant reservoir. Get some black spray paint, spray it into a cup and dab the paint on to the white areas with a small paint brush. Problem solved. Easy, inexpensive, and quick.

    Another thing to watch for in that area. My coolant tank started deteriorating so I replaced it. I didn't want to risk it failing on the road and smoking the engine. Cheap proactive insurance.
