    Ferrari appears to have offered several variations of engine side lateral covers for the 355. Either a difference for different MY’s. F1 or manual. Unique Spider markets. Different finishes and textures (I know of 3). Hopefully all differences are covered here.

    The specific question I have is … what is the purpose of the top flange having notches in their design? As I install them on my 95 car, I couldn’t pinpoint a reason for notches being present. To add … I discovered both my 95 cars have OE lateral covers without the center notch on them.

    I've seen the notch on the right side cover, so you can hook up a battery tender without removing the panel (the + and - terminals are under the notch). IIRC this was standard on challenge cars. But I've never seen a notch on a left side cover.

    Ken, so apparently there's another variant of these engine bay lateral covers; the F355 Challenge Right Lateral Cover with the cut-out pictured above. :)

    Were you able to determine how finish and texture of these lateral covers correspond to a given 355 model ?
