    Started car yesterday and heard an unfamiliar thumping sound coming from engine bay over my right shoulder. Three or four weak thumps and then sounds stopped. Car running fine. Noticed this same sound after starting car following several months waiting for winter to pass. Any ideas? thanks.

    Mine always starts up from cold loud and uncomfortable, and then settles down in about 30 seconds. It has always been like this (owned 5 years). I think it is normal.
