Rumour has it that Red Bull Racing may want to change engines next year with the suggestion being a switch to Mercedes-Benz. The success of Brawn GP has shown that the engines are highly competive and Mercedes-Benz is particularly interested in the team because it would give it access to rising German star Sebastian Vettel, who is otherwise tied into a Red Bull contract. Mercedes-Benz is keen to expand its engine supplies to avoid lay-offs in its engine division while at the same time strengthening its F1 position.

Good idea if it saves jobs, makes them even more competitive and helps Vettel that's wonderful!

Me thinks all the engines are more or less the same-they are all controlled by the same ecu and are rev limited. I'd love to see a dyno test on these modern engines.

As wurz has said, access to 5 wind tunnels, long development time and the honda $$ are the keys to Brawn winning thus far.

Its all about aeros and chassis that can keep the tires in their proper operating range-that's the ticket.

Ask Hammy about his all conquering MB engines.....

Less reason for Renault to stick around.

Or RBR hedging their bets in case Renault leaves?

Edit to add: how does an engine contract give MB access to Vettel? If he went to Ferrari (just speculation) wouldn't that become a moot point?
