There is a 328 that I'm looking at. Here is the engine compartment. Is there anything to be said about an engine that looks like this? Maybe needs alittle steam or something??
Also, note the airbox not having "Ferrari" embossed on it? Not unusual? Thanks.

Can't comment on the engine, looks pretty normal to me.

For cleanliness' sake though: on the right, there seems te be rust on the metal frame containing the mesh (quite normal, paint peeling of). My mechanic advised me not to get the frame of the hood-frame (riveted), said I'd never get it back on straight. So I just grinded the rust away and aplied zinq-spray + black semi gloss coating. Works for now.

    Good luck on your car-hunt!

It's not uncommon for the Ferrari white lettering to be gone from the airbox... probably was cleaned with something other than water. However, the nicer 328's tend to have it intact.

Steaming is supposedly not the best thing for gaskets and electrical bits -- I would get it properly detailed as part of a major service at some point.

Not a whole lot of time or TLC spent on the engine & compartment. Is that an indication of the attention given to the rest of the car?? More important when were the last services done? Given the dirt & grease on the spark plug wires comming out of the rubber cover on the distributer, I would say it's been at least 3 -4 years since any serious work was done on the engine. In it self not a bad thing but expect to do a major service on it soon. More important check the brake fluid, if it's clean then it has been changed within the last 1-2 years so mabe the other fluids were changed as well. If it's dirty then chances are little or no maintenance has been done on the car. Like most everyone else says get a PPI and go from there.

It means nothing. My 308 looked about like that and just made a flawless drive from Houston to Atlanta at the hands of the new owner. If that car has been driven a lot it is likely a superb running machine. Spraying cleaners and steam on it may ruin that.

I do agree that a good cleaning when it has its next major would be money well spent.
