My '74 GTS 07924 with 29K miles when I bought her had this latch in the engine compartment. Does anyone else have this latch on their car? Can't believe it was switched out as it had all the crimped metal cable ties attached to it intact.

Hi - we are probably the only 2 Dino owners not in Italy this weekend so I thought I’d better send you a comparison photo. Regards Steve

Thanks so much for the replies. Glad to see another car with that latch.

    Another quick question about latches...
The thin metal the latch is connected to flexes when closing the engine cover and makes locking the engine cover down difficult. Anyone else have this issue or a solution ?

I would make sure your latch is flushed out and re-lubed and that the engagement pin on your engine compartment lid is not bent. You could make a long tapping plate on the back side of the latch to stiffen that area and spread the load but that shouldn't really be necessary.

Thanks for that. I’ve done most of above suggested, I hold it about 4 inches from closed and let it drop. That’s the only fast enough action to engage the latch prior to flex.

I always close the engine panel by dropping it from several inches up rather than placing it down and pushing on it. This has proven to be the best and most reliable way to close the hatch once you get used to the rather loud slam sound as it closes. Dropping the lid in a controlled fashion exposes it to less risk than pushing down on it.

On the subject of pushing on the lid, years ago I learned the lesson to always push with your non watch hand. I was closing the wet trunk lid on an Alfa and my hand slipped nicking the lid with my watch which chipped it. Sharing the story with an old hand mechanic he gave me that knowing look and told me to always use the arm with a naked wrist.

Glad to know this technique is Fchat approved.

    Thanks
