My dad was driving the 612 today and a warning showed up saying "Engine Control Failure...Go to Dealer." However, the service department is closed all weekend (wtf) and we are in Newport Beach. Is it safe to continue driving? What should we do? What does this failure mean?

It's probably safe but not worth the risk the car. When in doubt I take my car in.

Unfortuantely, there is no way to differentiate between a criitical and non critical "engine control failure". They are at least 20 seperate codes all lumped together from cat. converter emmission problems, temp regulator problems to more serious ignition and engine problems. The list goes on and on. If your lucky it could be just a faulty sensor that needs to be replaced. My advice would be to drive the car as little as possible until the failure codes can checked at the dealer. My 599 showed the same thing less than a week ago. Turned out to be a minor problem easily corrected with little down time and at no cost. Unfortuantely there is just no way to know. Better safe than sorry. Good Luck.

Check the gas cap. I feel like a broken record...

Search is your friend, too-- there have been several threads about similar issues recently.

Like most f cars past and present. My 599 came with a tool set. Today its really become nothing more than a tradition. Somehow I don't see myself sitting on the side of the road with a stalled out ferrari. Cleaning out a clogged fuel line and repairing a faulty alternator. The only thing that still makes sense is the tire repair/spare kit. Even then I would probably be calling 911 or road assistance.

You'll plug your ulta-whizbang handheld SD-2030 into it, and it will tell you that it was a loose gas cap. Then you'll tell it to reset the codes. That's how you'll do it.

Calling 911 for a flat tire? Sounds a little extreme to me...

Why wait a half-hour for a repair truck to change your tire for you when you can do it yourself and be on your way in the time it would take just for the truck to get there?

I have been jinx-ed by pre-reading this chat... so here comes the ECU light and sure enough my gas cap was loose.
The St Louis Ferrari Dealer said 2 weeks to get the Scag into service. Finally time has come and taking it in tomorrow.
The best part is Ferrari service said leave it all day- I say F chat that!

I don't know about 911, but I would probably be calling roadside assistance because the 612 has no spare.

Mine doesn't, and honestly I'd prefer to have the trunk space.
