My engine cover release lever is inoperable (no cable tension) and I used the emergency release to open it however now it won't latch shut. Has anybody relplaced a broken cable before? Mine might have just come loose. Also, any pointers on how to get the engine cover to latch shut while I am using the emergency cable release?

I'm not sure as I haven't done it myself, but I think the release cable replacement involves some CAREFUL interior dis-assembly. Other than that no big deal. I'm gonna guess that the reason your hood won't latch now is because the emergency cable is binding up a bit due to lack of use....a common thing, and not letting the hood catches return all the way. You may have to physically pull the hood catches back into position by hand, and then shut the hood.

Thanks. The engine cover hood now shuts. The cable broke right where it connects to the latch and is not visibile. At least I can drive it now but not sure if I want to tackle dissasembling the interior to search for the cable.

I have replaced the emergency cable for the front lid on my Mondial t. It was a simple case of withdrawing the old cable and feeding the new cable through, no trim removal/disassembly was neccessary. I overhauled all the latch mechanisms on my car by removal, cleaning, lubing and reinstalling. I used a bicycle brake cable as the replacement which worked fine.

Mine also broke and I used the emergency one, its a very simple fix and not expensive. Easy to do...follow the cable latch to the interior, took me two hours to fix and the actual new level witch was $72.00CDN (few yrs back).

Be very carful of the front hood double latch, if that one breaks its a nightmare, and $$$ dont ask how I know.
    Good luck.
