Folks, How many engine dynos are you aware of in mass? I ask because I have a friend who just purchased a chassis dyno in Worcester and is looking to have an engine dyno'd for a customer and needs something near by.

    Thanks!

I know there is a dyno in Worcester, close to the intersection of Rt's 20 &146.
A friend has a new Vette that is S-Charged that he brings there after tweaking.
I can do some checkng if you like.

Yes there is a NEDT (a chassis dyno) right there by the pike and 146 and then next to them is Quest racing who has an engine dyno but lets just say my friend is trying to find an alternative to them.

    Thanks!

Whats the difference between an engine Dyno and chassis Dyno? KTR web site shows this:

"KTR utilizes our in-house Dyno Dynamics 4WD Low Boy dyno for diagnosis, performance, exhaust emission testing and research & development.

As a market leader, Dyno Dynamics' dynamometers are the most reliable and repeatable chassis dynos available. Their customers include the Royal Australian Air Force, Australian Armed Forces, and Toyota Motor Co. Aust.

Our Dyno Dynamics 4WD dynamometer with its 4WD Smart system supports all variations of FWD, RWD, AWD, and 4WD vehicles due to its unique ability to control speed and load to each axle independently."

I am thinking of having them install a Power Chip on my Spyder so would like to have them Dyno first to see what gain I get from it, Also have been curious as to any gain my Tubi may have given me. Have never put a car on a Dyno before, So can anyone tell me what it involves?

An Engine Dyno is an out of the car job and typically only used by manufacturers. This allows them to manage power without any of the mechanical losses caused by the driveline (10-20% of total power).

A chassis Dyno measures power at the wheels. The important thing is to do as you suggest and do a before and after number. You need the best comparative. The machine used makes a difference as does the air temperature etc. The KTR guys maintain that their machine best avoids these day to day differences and therefore you should genuinely get the same number for the same car on two different days.

They're great people and we did an F-chat dyno day organised by Steve last year. Great fun - my CS was probably the loudest (although Zan's lambo was also V loud).

All it involves is strapping the car down and running it on a rolling wheels dyno. If your Maser is F1 then you'll need to turn off all the traction control stuff and make sure its in a gearbox mode that doesn't change up at redline. You might also have a problem with the Hood being open (which you'll want for cooling). My CS wouldn't go into gear with the rear deck open.

    Have fun.
