spoke with my electrical guru. he recommended, as did others here, concentrating on the various grounds on the car to solve my starting issue. naturally i did the obvious one first, the battery. now i'm after the engine ground strap. where is it? i'm assuming it's a woven type. i had enough problem finding the starter. i've checked the manuals and the archives. much advice but no directions.

Paul is correct on location and it is often covered with engine/transmission fluids (hard to see).

I remember reading a rice magazine that a high tech set of ground straps (silver connections) throughout the body would provide a three to five HP improvement. Is there any truth to that? The 308 ground straps seem to be pretty good quality.

    Cheers,
    Alan

Electrically speaking, the engine only needs spark to run. Improving the coils ground would not improve the spark quality, better than 1 ohm ground won't make a measureable difference to the output. So no hp improvement there.

A magnetti or otherwise control unit doesn't need anything special for a ground. If it runs on a .5 ohm ground, improving to .001 ohms ground is meaningless to the output. It either works well or it doesn't work at all. No in between so no hp improvement there either.

A super ground questionably helps anything which draws current, starter is #1, and it also helps reduces radio interference. A super ground can help any sensors which don't carry there own ground (poor design). But affect horsepower?, myth busted.

That cable can and does cause starting problems...speaking from experience. I took mine off, cleaned it very well and put it back on. It was in great shape other than it was coated in grease and oil. Solved my problem.

Till the next one that is! :)
