Thanks for all the positive feedback on the first 3 installments...... hope they helped someone. I was honored to be declared an official Stooge.... Wow, my parents would be so proud.....
Anyway, got my new engine parts, installed them and.... wait for it..... the darn thing runs like a charm!!! The rattle at the front of the engine is gone. I suspect it was from the crappy torn up chain tensioner pads. Anyone know if Ferrari uses this same primitive technology on any other cars? I mean really.... plastic blocks on springs up against a steel chain? Talk about Stooge! Even Curly would be horrified.
Anyway, new video of parts instalation will be forthcoming shortly to Youtube in a week or so.
I didn't deal with dropping the engine as the instructions on other threads on this site do a great job of that.
Putting the bloody thing back in was a major Pain in the Butt. A few observations for anyone else attempting the same:
I had read to get the front cradle bolts in first, then all else would fall into place. Not on my car! After doing the front bolts underneath, I popped my head topsides to find the shock tower mounts WAY off. In the end it worked better to get the rear bolts and shock towers lined up, then the front plates sort of fell into place (yeah, sure..).
After you disconnect the brake and clutch lines, the reservoir will empty. When all is connected up again, the ignition must be on to allow the ABS pump to work to bleed the rear brakes.
As for the clutch, despite using a vacuum system to draw fluid through the lines, the clutch pedal was flapping in the wind. Turns out you have to do sort of a "bench bleed" with it on the car: disconnect the line leaving the clutch master cylinder. Then have a helper push the clutch pedal in. Now... here's the key.... you put your finger over the opening on the master cylinder for the line you disconnected. Your helper then releases the clutch pedal which sucks fluid into the cylinder. repeat that sequence a few times 'till you get a good squirt with pedal depresion... then hook the line back up and bleed down by the clutch unit.
Finally: I don't how the heck you would do some of this in anything but a Spider. Hooking up coolant hoses, throttle cables, feeding the ECU plugs through etc. must be interesting with a hardtop.
