    I took my car out for a drive today and midway the engine malfunction light comes on. My car has stock pipes and no other mods. Manual says malfunction in the emission control system.

    My questions,
    1. Can this be self diagnosed?
    2. What special equipment is needed?
    3. What normally is the culprit here that needs replacing or fixing e.g. O2 sensor etc?
    4. Anything else I should know?

    Your dealer has the equipment to download the code(s) and fix if necessary. It could be as simple as the gas cap not being on all the way. There are a large number of issues that could trip the light. Most are minor, some not so. If the car is still running normally, it's likely very minor.

    Thanks Dave. Do they use the SD3 diagnostic tool?
