Thanks! Interesting comment. You're saying that based on the shape of the maps? No doubt. Drive by wire allows all kinds of games to be played. Florian seems to be saying that this (F1) non-linearity is very different to what he's doing with road cars - I'd love to see some "real" maps [including axis labels & scale ] to compare. I'm also still patiently waiting for pix of his test rig too....... Cheers, Ian
When you get down to it my BMW has a more sophisticated system, with traction control and whatnot, than an F1 car. Pinnacle of technology my patookis!
+1 However, we still want to think of it as a *drivers* championship, hence the banning of all driver aids. I know I hated hearing 'em burping & farting coming out of T1 at Indy a few years back. Cheers, Ian
I just post **** like this anymore because it gets an instant rise and response out of you like clockwork. It's hilarious, you're F1's knight in shining armor, thankfully the sport has you there to defend its idiotic moves. And before you get into it, I know if I don't bow down to every FIA ruling I'm just a hater and I need to find something new to watch.
OK, you're not a nerd. That's fine. Some of us here are I guess. We *enjoy* discussing this stuff. If you don't can I respectfully suggest you STFU and post elsewhere rather than polluting an intelligent discussion. Thanks. Cheers, Ian
Wait, so if it wasn't for the engine freeze we'd have very efficient cars? Yet we're scrapping these engines and spending a boatload of $$$ to develop new engines and have efficient cars? Yet we're also trying to control costs by implementing a new freeze? We're also trying to bring in new manufacturers, yet they aren't interested in frozen engines. And the cycle starts over. We have some wizards writing the rules.
I was very disappointed to hear that. I thought, well, they might be down on power and sound worse but at least there will be development allowed and they will get much better. Can you imagine the V8s if the freeze wasn't put on? They would be epic by now.
Yes, it's the downward slope: If you use such an engine map, to maintain a certain torque (ie acceleration), you have to keep pushing the pedal more and more as the car accelerates and the engine speeds up. I imagine this to be quite awful to drive. I'd avoid the term "drive by wire" for that stuff, that's mostly reserved for all-electric driver input (ie, first and foremost steering) and might lead to confusion when talking about the common electronic accelerator pedals. I'll see if I can make an artificial map that somewhat reproduces the common characteristics I find in the proprietary maps I have! You're not the only one waiting for the pictures, my boss reminds me weekly about them, too, as he needs them for a presentation
OK. Gotcha. Hmmmm..... *Very* interesting. [Thanks ] However, that suggests they're feathering the throttle, does it not? From the (limited) telemetry we see, looks like they still pretty much floor the sucker to me! (?) Yeah, they spin their wheels, but seems we have a reasonable theory as to why it's not excessive (?) Roger that. That's what I was hoping you'd say!.... "Anonymize" 'em, PM 'em to me & I'll post 'em!.... That way you're in the clear. Still high entropy? Cheers, Ian
